Independence Day for Papua New Guinea is September 16 and, on our ridge, the holiday is celebrated more than Christmas… and it is celebrated all week. Last year, our village hosted a basketball and soccer tournament, but this year the big event was a cultural day put on by the kids of the village school.
It was fun to watch and hear different groups of kids and adults preparing their costumes and practicing their songs each night, and today was the big day. Below are some photos and videos from our morning:
